RICHLAND, Wash.- Elementary school students in Richland are teaching the lessons this week.
Second graders from Badger Mountain Elementary planted melons for Second Harvest's Plant a Row for the Hungry project.
They'll grow alongside tomatoes, cucumbers and other produce in the Giving Green Food Bank Garden.
They will later be harvested and donated to Second Harvest.
"I hope that the watermelon will grow big enough so that it can feed a family of 5 people," says Second Grader Quinn Mitchell.
"I'm hoping they'll grow really big and people will come and see and help plant other plants," says Second Grader Emma Pennala
