RICHLAND, Wash. -- Richland starting pitcher Syd Hall has been growing beards since the 7th grade.
Hall says the beard seems to intimidate hitters. He lost just one game this season and threw two no-hitters. Hall will pitch in either the semifinal or state championship game this weekend for the Bombers.
But first, more on the beard, which Hall says many compare to San Francisco Giant Closer Brian Wilson.
"All the baseball people think that I look like Brian Wilson," said Hall. "When I was going up to bat in regionals all the catchers were telling me that they liked the beard, they were telling me that I look like Brian Wilson."
"Some of the coaches will come by and ask if he's 40," said catcher Jarrod Turner. "They want to see his birth certificate but we always tell them them that he's legit. It's kind of funny."
