National Do Not Call Registry emails

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Emails are circulating by the government reminding you to register for the National Do Not Call Registry.

The email says that cell phone numbers will go public this month, meaning unwanted telemarketers could get your information. But these emails have been sent out twice a year since 2004 and numbers have remained private. A representative with the Better Business Bureau says the directory of numbers have not been released, and if they do it's only on an opt-in basis. But to be safe she registered for the registry.

"I don't get any of the telemarketing calls on my cell phone, whether that's the reason, I don't know, but if it saves me from picking up a phone call from a telemarketer that's great for me," said Norma Miller with the BBB.
