Snow melt causes water to rise on the Columbia

Posted: Updated:

This weekend may be the unofficial start to summer, but we're seeing fewer boats on the Columbia River after warnings about high water levels.

The National Weather Service reports this may be a record year for high water.

The Army Corps of Engineers adds this isn't too surprising as Spring snow melts, but the amount of water passing through the McNary Dam is fast, and it has doubled since May 1st.

The few boats we did see out here were just being pushed quickly down the river as the waters continue to flow fast.
