Local housing market beats national trends

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.— Most of us have heard the housing market is in recovery and to hold off on buying or selling a home.  KNDU discovered local real estate agents are saying just the opposite.

Real estate agents say people hear nationally home prices are continuing to drop and their housing confidence also goes down.  However, local agent say, it couldn't be a better time to sell or to buy.  A few reasons are the Tri-Cities has great economic growth, low unemployment and available property to build on.

"Nice supplies of inventories, some shortages, so we don't have that abundance.  We don't have the foreclosure, so really what we have is a really strong real estate market with lots of opportunities," Paul Roy, Tri-City Association of Realtor's President.

Roy says 35% of home sales in the Tri-Cities are new homes, and right now is typically a time new homeowners buy.  He expects the upward trend to continue.
