Richland Police investigating fatal officer involved shooting
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that left a Richland man dead Sunday morning.
Richland police say they received reports of suspicious behavior from a man inside a car around the intersection of Cottonwood and Thayer. Police say after officers approached the man and shots were fired. The man died at the scene. His identity has not been released yet.
Because the shooting involved Richland police officers, the Tri-City Special Investigation Unit is investigating exactly what happened. Captain Jeff Taylor explains, "For officer involved use of force incidences where there are serious injury or death, the policy and practice is that we don't investigate our own incidents."
An investigation is on going and we will give you more information as it becomes available to us through police.
