YAKIMA, Wash.--A man whose DNA linked him to a murder in Yakima appeared in court Monday to face his charges.
Terrek Corbin, 25, appeared in Yakima County Court to face a slew of charges in connection with a fatal home invasion robbery in 2010.
Corbin is accused in the murder of Mark Daman Wallace, 45, Yakima.
He was formally charged with first degree murder, along with burglary and attempted robbery.
Prosecutors say if convicted Corbin could face up to life behind bars.
Family and friends of the victim were in the courtroom Monday as they continue to deal with their loss.
"Mark was protecting his family. He was doing what any red-blooded American would do in the case of someone breaking into your home," said Jeanie Knox, a close family friend. "He stopped them, he protected his family, and in my eyes he died a hero."
The victim's family says they will continue to appear in court for as long as the trial takes. It is slated to begin July 18.
