KENNEWICK, Wash.—Police say as the temperature goes up so do home break-in's, but they say the most common intrusion could be prevented.  KNDU looked into the big mistake you could be making.

The most common intrusion mistake homeowners make is leaving their garage door open.  Police say they've seen an increase in the number of home burglaries where the homeowner has left open the garage.

Kennewick Police report within the past month 30% of burglaries have been through the garage.  Both Pasco and Richland Police say they have not seen an increase.

A study by a consumer Report National Research Center found 19% of people who surveyed don't lock their doors, 26% don't lock their windows and 43% don't turn on their home alarm.
