Carpenters union protest in Richland

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND-  More than 20 people with picket signs were at a construction site on University Avenue near in Richland Wednesday.

The protesters belong to the Northwest Carpenters Union, and were there in opposition to a non-union specialty contractor called K2MG.

They started at 5 a.m. waiving banners and talking about their issues with the company.

"Out of town workers. Paid less than area standards. Money isn't staying in the community. Sending it elsewhere. And they're paying these carpenters that work hard way less than what we're making," Says local carpenter Noe Castillo

The owner of K2MG says she gets her employees from Oregon where her company is based, and says they are paid the average wage for carpenters.
