RICHLAND, WA- Thousands of families in Richland will spend the summer going around a major road construction project.
City workers Thursday closed the Keene Road Bridge over Interstate182.
That means everyone who lives in Country Ridge, Brookshire, and other neighborhoods in the area will have to take either Duportail Street or Queensgate Drive.
Civil engineer Steve Stairs says traffic signals have been tweaked to keep traffic flowing. "Take the Duportail and Queensgate signal. We used to have it programmed for a certain amount of traffic. Now we're sending a lot more traffic from a different direction to that signal. so we may make tweaks to the amount of green time we put on different phases of the traffic signal."
Over the next two months, workers will install new water lines, fire hydrants, curbs and sidewalks on the bridge.
The project's price tag comes in just under $4,000,000.
