Alumni General Mattis speaks at CWU graduation

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- More than 3,000 students graduated Central Washington University today, and half of them walked in the commencement ceremony.

Commencement speaker was United States Marine Corps General James N. Mattis.  Mattis is   the current commander of United States Central Command, having replaced David Petraeus on August 11, 2010.

Mattis is also a CWU alumni, having graduated back in 1971.    "I'm so fond of your school and so fond of you graduates standing  before you 40 years removed from my time when I walked on this campus," said Mattis during his speech.

Mattis was born in Pullman, Washington and graduated from Richland High School.
