CBC faces large cuts

Posted: Updated:

As community college budgets get smaller across the state, Columbia Basin College follows suit with a 7.6 million dollar budget reduction over the next biennium.

CBC President Richard Cummins says to help offset the change they must close several programs including Administration Office Technology and Parent Education, along with shrinking the Dental Hygiene Program.

"It gets harder and harder each time because each time you're cutting deeper and deeper into the core of what the college does, so it becomes increasingly difficult to fulfill the mission that both the law required and the community expects," Cummins says.

Cummins also says this is the 5th cut in three years, and they have had to lay off nearly 90 positions during that time.
