Judge scolds attorneys in murder case

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA- A judge in an upcoming murder trial has let attorneys know he's not happy with the delays in getting the defendant examined by state psychiatrists.

Pasco police arrested Gregorio Luna Luna one year ago last month for stabbing Griselda Ocampo Meza during an argument over their young son.

In April, Superior Court Judge Robert Swisher ordered Luna Luna to undergo a mental exam, but doctors at Eastern State Hospital have yet to finish that exam which could cause Luna Luna's summer trial to be pushed back.

"This has got to be a priority," Swisher told defense attorneys and the deputy prosecutor. "This charge is well over a year old now. This is just not acceptable that this lingers and lingers."

Judge Swisher ordered attorneys to return to court in three weeks with word on when he can expect the doctors' report on his desk.
