BENTON CITY, Wash. -- A Benton City man is behind bars, accused of 1st degree child rape and more. According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, the suspect was arrested last Thursday at a home on North District Line Road. They aren't releasing his name yet. During a search warrant, deputies also found several pounds of marijuana and 70 plants, along with 33 guns.

RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - According to the Associated Press, the Richland School District has banned author and poet, Sherman Alexie's new book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian". The decision was made after the district's Instructional Materials Committee read the book. The committee was divided; some opposed it while others endorsed the book. Profanity and sex scenes were the concern. The Richland School Board considered those mixed recommendations and voted to remove the book from the reading lists.

PASCO, WA- Defense attorneys indicate a man accused of murder will blame his drug use. Pasco police arrested Kurtis Chapman, 23, last May after officers discovered the body of his former girlfriend beneath his front porch. The coroner determined Shenay Greenough, 19, who was seven months pregnant, had been strangled. Defense attorneys Monday told the judge they are lining up to testify an expert on diminished mental capacity due to drug use. Chapman faces second degree murder. Prosecutors have also charged him with first degree manslaughter for the death of the woman's unborn child. His trial is set to begin next month.
