RICHLAND, Wash.—For the first time the Tri-Cities will have an around-the-clock critical care transport team dedicated only to children and pregnant women in the Tri-Cities. In the past, if you needed their care, they had to travel from an hour away. The perinatal and pediatric specialty transport team is part of Northwest Medstar.
"We've had a specialty team with Northwest Medstar who does perinatals, pediatrics and high risk maternity patients but we've always been based out of Spokane," Terri Tickner, Perinatal Site Nurse.
The new team is located in Richland. Now the critical care wait time could be less than ten minutes.
"Versus a half hour flight down here then you have an ambulance drive so it's a good 45 minutes to an hour to get to Richland and little more to get to Kennewick and Pasco," says Tickner.
The team consists of four trained personnel. They have two teams of a perinatal nurse and a respiratory therapist. They treat about 300 patients every year.
