KENNEWICK, Wash. -- It's been a tough few weeks for Fever Receiver Steven Whitehead. Whitehead missed the Fever's final regular season game, going to his grandfather's funeral.
But he was back for Monday night's playoff game and boy did he provide a spark against West Texas.
He had eight catches and three touchdowns in the Fever's 61-49 win over the Roughnecks. The win sends the Fever to the conference semis on Monday at Colorado.
Whitehead says the last few weeks haven't been easy.
"It was an unfortunate situation that I had to go home and be with my family," said Whitehead. "My grandfather passed. But, it also allowed me a chance to get a little bit healthy with the week of rest ... I haven't felt this good all season. It's been a blessing to have God on my side and have my faith with me and have my teammates and my coaches support me through this whole ordeal. I couldn't ask for better teammates or better coaches and all they did was tell me to keep my head up, stay strong, stay positive and keep on balling."
