Drowning in Finley

FINLEY, Wash. - A Kennewick man is dead after drowning at the Two River's Park in Finley.

Friends of the victim say he's 35 yeard old Jose Mejia.  Rescuers got the call Wednesday afternoon.  They say Mejia was swimming with friends when the raft they were on flipped over.  That's when he went under.

Columbia Basin Dive Rescue took about three hours to find the body, they say he was down about 12 feet.

"The visibility is down to a foot, so you just can't see very far in front of you at all. So you are out there, feeling at the bottom. There's mud about a foot deep, so you touch it and it blows up all around you . So you can't see well, so you are feeling the whole way," said Scott Ruppelious, from Dive Rescue.

Friends say Mejia has been in the area for about two years. He's originally from Guatemala, that's where his wife and kids are.

Rescuers also say this a perfect reminder for people to wear their life jackets and be cautious with the cold water.
