Update on SR 410 reroute construction plan unveiled
NILE VALLEY, Wash. -- The Washington State Department of Transportation met with Nile Valley residents on Thursday. They discussed the rerouting project of SR 410. After an extensive process of going through all the issues involved with fixing the damaged road, there is now a plan in place.
In October of 2009, a landslide demolished half of a mile of the highway. Transportation crews established a detour around the damage. Now WSDOT Project Engineer Jeff Minnick and his colleagues are ready to unveil their permanent project to the public. They are making sure to address the environmental issues for construction.
"Wetland impacts with our new alignment. We also have to look at what kind of endangered species we might impact. And so we've gone through that process," Minnick said.
The total budget for the project is $21.2 million with about $10 million going toward construction. WSDOT plans to have SR 410 completed by the fall of 2012.
