Conferences are big business during the summer months
YAKIMA, Wash.--Especially during the summer months, conferences and events seem to take over Yakima.
Just this weekend there were several different events that brought people to the city.
The Red Lion Hotel in Downtown Yakima hosted the Veteran's of Foreign War conference at the beginning of the weekend and then made room for the Washington Association of Pupil Transportation conference Sunday.
Jim Steelman, general manager at the Red Lion says that in the May, revenue was up by 28% compared to last year. He says a big contributing factor are all the events.
"So far the summer's really looked very good, promising for the Yakima area," said Steelman. "If they're staying at hotels, they got to eat, they got to shop, and so I think it's good for everybody."
During the summer months, Steelman says that most of the hotels around Yakima are completely booked over the weekends.
