Traffic congestion expected during Yakima fireworks show
YAKIMA, Wash. -- If you plan to go to Monday night's fireworks show in Yakima, plan to get there early. Traffic around State Fair Park and Exit 34 on I-82 will be congested. From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. both off-ramps on I-82 to Nob Hill Boulevard will be closed. Westbound traffic out of Moxee will need to turn on I-82 West and can access State Fair Park from Yakima Ave.
"During the event we've got two signal technicians operating signals. We've also got a crew of about five guys closing the ramps and setting up traffic control," said WSDOT Assistant Traffic Engineer Corey Hert.
The traffic control costs WSDOT about $2,000. This does not include the streets around State Fair Park where the fireworks and the carnival are taking place. Yakima police will control traffic there.
