New group for people dealing with mental illness

Posted: Updated:

You may have heard of NAMI, "The National Alliance of Mental Illness". It focuses on offering help and resources for people and their families living with mental illness.

But now one local group is taking it a step further with the creation of the new Tri-Cities chapter, and a friends and family support group.

Each 1st and 3rd Friday of the month people come together at First Christian Church in Kennewick.

Leaders of the group say they may not know the answers, but they can help you find them.

"I know we needed more than just our regular NAMI meeting, we needed support to one another where people could really share and not feel alone," member Janice Baugh said.

Janice says each meeting is an opportunity to learn to accept and cope with a friend or relative's condition, and know that you are not alone.

Meetings on the first Friday of the month begin at 2pm, and those on the third Friday of the month start at 7pm.
