YAKIMA, Wash.--Nick Kotlarz a junior at Eisenhower High School in Yakima won third place at the SkillsUSA championships in Kansas City last week.

Kotlarz competed in the architectural drafting portion of the competition after winning first place at the Washington regional conference.

He says he couldn't believe he actually placed in the national competition.

"I saw Nick Kotlarz pop up and everybody in the Washington section stood up and started cheering. It was like I couldn't hear anything. it was just a total blur," said Kotlarz.

Kotlarz competed against other students from around the country and although did well, he says he can't wait to try for first place next year.

He's hoping to continue his passion for architecture after high school and into college.
