Yakima City Council to discuss finalists for city manager

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima City Council is getting closer to finding a new city manager. The search process continues as Dick Zais retires from a 32-year run as city manager. Tuesday night the council plans to talk about what candidates should be finalists--and who would then come in for interviews.

The council says its ready to work together and take their time to fill the position. "It's one of the only things that we get to do besides make resolutions and ordinances and laws here in the city of Yakima. It's a big part of our job, and it's really been a direct council process," said Mayor Micah Cawley.

Assistant City Manager Michael Morales will cover the manager duties until the position is filled. The council hopes to start interviewing next week. Though there is no official timetable, the council could vote next month.
