PASCO, Wash.—Scammers are now using a different tool to trick you out of your money.
A Pasco man received a phone call from a person who said he had won a big sum of cash. All he had to do was purchase a Green Dot card and put $300 on it. A representative with the Better Business Bureau says instead of asking victims to wire money, they're now using the Green Dot cards.
"This is kind of another twist on it, because the green dot card is just basically the same as cash, so all they need is the number from the card and they can deduct the $300 or $250 or whatever money they've asked you to transfer," says Norma Miller, Better Business Bureau.
A few tips, don't give your Green Dot card number to anyone, only use the card for accounts you control, and be aware of deals that are too good to be true.
