Emeralds Take Series with Seven-Run WinPosted: Updated:
Eugene, OR--- The Yakima Bears lost by a score of 8-1 in a Sunday afternoon game against the Eugene Emeralds at PK Park in Eugene, Oregon. The win for Eugene was the team's 20th of the season, as the Emeralds are now 20-4, while the Bears fell to 7-17.
Bears starting pitcher John Pedrotty walked five batters and was charged with two earned runs in two and two thirds innings. Pedrotty would take the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
First out of the bullpen was Sammy De Los Santos, who allowed two unearned runs in one and a third innings after an errant throw to first. An errant throw to first would eventually lead to four unearned runs against the Bears second reliever, Alex Capaul, in the seventh inning. Capaul lasted four innings and the four unearned runs were all he allowed.
The Bears only run was scored in the fifth inning when Danny Pulfer led off with a triple and then scored on a Zach Jones single.
Jones led the Bears on a slow day for the offense, as the team collected a total of five hits. Jones went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, the RBI, and two stolen bases in two attempts.
The Emeralds have claimed a series win already with still one game left in the five-game set to go. That final game will be played at 7:05 Monday night. The pitching match-up at PK Park is expected to be right-handed pitchers Randy Hamrick of the Bears against James Needy of the Emeralds.
