KENNEWICK, Wash.-  Some people think going five or ten miles over the speed limit isn't a big deal, but police say there are some facts you might not know about speeding.

Almost half of all accidents involve a speeding driver and a ticket could cost you up to 400 dollars.

Police say just going 5 miles an hour over in a 30 mile per hour zone could be tragic.

"Just going five over.  You're increasing your stopping distance by 13 feet.  You think that matters to the child that accidentally runs out in front of you on a residential street? You bet it's important," says Sergeant Ken Lattin.

Law enforcement agencies across Washington State will be out in full force for their "slow down or pay up" campaign.  It start Friday and goes for three weeks.
