Police investigate bank robbery and possible link to the "bad hair bandit"
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Richland police are investigating a bank robbery that could be connected to the infamous, "bad hair bandit". They say the Yakima Federal Savings Bank was robbed Monday afternoon. The woman who may have been behind it is also accused of robbing about 20 banks in Washington and Oregon. Police still have not found a definite connection, but have released photos of the Yakima Federal Savings robbery suspect.
The robbery happened just after 2 p.m. At the Yakima Federal on Swift Blvd. and Jadwin Ave. The suspect is described as 5'6" tall, between 35-40 years old with blonde hair and a hat. Captain Mike Cobb of Richland Police says it is the same general description as the bad hair bandit. "It has more to do with the physical description in some of the photographs, seeing if we can match it up from any of the bank assets that we're trying to get a hold of right now, so we're checking that out cause it's usually the first thing to leap to everyone's mind," said Captain Cobb.
The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank after saying she had a weapon with her, but never showed it. Police say she ran off with a driver in a white or silver car with a spoiler on the back. No customers were in the bank at the time and there were no injuries.
