Precautions taken on Columbia River

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--Coordinators say extra precautions need to be taken on the Columbia River. There is expected to be high boat traffic in the water.

Water Follies event staff put together a visible track for boaters to avoid bumping into while cruising around.

Kevin Smith Chairman of the Water Follies says "You'll notice in the river west of the blue bridge, you will see white Styrofoam and the markers."

The course and outlines on the river are set up to avoid any boat collisions or other accidents. Volunteers preparing for the Water Follies are making sure that all of the docks on shore are fixed and the shoreline and pit areas are clean for the hydroplanes. Water follies kicks off on Friday.
