KENNEWICK, Wash.--Groups address water safety in Columbia Park. Saturday at the Columbia Park the American Red Cross, Dive Rescue and several other groups met to bring awareness to drowning.
Dive Rescue says alcohol can play a huge factor. In fact people are even more likely to drown when intoxicated.
Russell Bell Safety Officer for Dive Rescue says "adults from 18 to say 30 or 40 are more relaxed, more complacent. They think they know more or are bullet proof and they tend to be more lax."
Dive Rescue says that almost 99% of drowning's can be prevented. Two main tips given were to wear a life vest and stay away from fast water currents.
