YAKIMA, Wash.-- After 11 years away, The Miss Yakima Sunfair Pageant is back.
The Sunfair Association is responsible for putting on the Central Washington Fair Kickoff Parade every year. They are celebrating their 50th year and have brought back the pageant to celebrate.
Today they announced the 8 finalists who will compete for the title of Miss Yakima Sunfair on September 11th. The girls say they would be proud to represent the Yakima valley if they win.
"It's important because I feel I need to get involved in my community," said Selena Santacruz of Yakima, one of the 8 finalists. "We'll be helping things like the mission and [Habitat for Humanity]."
The 8 finalists were chosen from all over the Yakima Valley and will participate in several community projects before the pageant.
The winner will get a $1,000 scholarship and be crowned Miss Yakima Sunfair.
