Yakima County won't ban medical marijuana for the time being
YAKIMA, Wash- The new state law allowing for some medical marijuana operations went into effect last Friday. The city of Yakima responded by putting an emergency moratorium on medical marijuana collective gardens while they come up with zoning policies. However, Yakima County isn't making any restrictions.
Commissioners discussed the issue and they feel that the state and federal laws are in conflict and they don't want to make local allowances for something that's against federal law.
"There's too many issues that are still unresolved in all this that need further clarification so until that time we're not going to enact any ordinances or zoning on something that is an illegal activity", says commissioner Kevin Bouchey.
While collective marijuana gardens are temporarily banned in the city of Yakima, they are allowed in Yakima County as long as they follow state guidelines.
