People respond to debt ceiling speeches

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- People respond to debt ceiling speeches. The message this morning on the U.S. House of Representatives website was the server is down.

After making some calls we found out what people are asking of their elected officials. Congressman Doc Hastings' office is saying the number of constituent calls have increased significantly since the debt ceiling speech. Most concerns from this area address what they call out of control government spending. U.S. Senator Patty Murray has also been getting a lot of contact since the debt ceiling speeches.

Press Secretary for Patty Murray Eli Zupnick says "We've gotten a tremendous response.  Thousands of people from across Washington State have called into Senator Murray's office and the overall majority of them have been pushing for a compromise."

We put a Facebook post up asking people how they felt about the debt ceiling issue. Most who responded say they still want more spending cuts but want Congress and the President to come to some kind of an agreement.
