YAKIMA, Wash.-- A luncheon in Yakima honored recipients of the Washington Apple Education Foundation Scholarship today.
Students, parents and donors streamed into the Yakima Convention Center to send off current recipients and raise money for future scholarships. The tree fruit industry gives them out to encourage students to continue their education.
"It's important to help provide students with opportunities to attain additional education in order to open doors and help realize their dreams," said Brian Alegrin who is on the Board of Directors.
The foundation gave scholarships to 151 students this year, amounting to around $450,000. The money comes from warehouse suppliers and growers, and most students come from families in the industry.
