TOPPENISH, Wash.-- The 43rd annual Toppenish Junior Rodeo is taking place this weekend.
The 3 day long event starts Friday night at the Toppenish Rodeo Grounds.
It will feature 170 contestants from around the U.S. and British Columbia, all competing for saddles and buckles.
Organizers say it's one of the largest junior rodeos in the northwest, and it gives kids the opportunity to get involved in the sport.
"We try to keep the kids off the street, so it's a good thing. And we try to give the scholarship away to keep them in school," said Chuck Carl, president of the Toppenish Junior Rodeo. "They do everything from mutton busting for the little kids all the way up to senior bull riding, just like the pros."
The event goes until about 10p.m. Friday, and starts again at 10a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
