YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's Veteran's of Foreign War's held a memorial today for Jack Pendleton, a soldier who died in Germany in 1944.
Pendleton was remembered today by local veterans and even family that still live in the valley. He is the only Yakima resident to ever receive the Medal of Honor. Family of Pendleton say it's a great feeling to know the community hasn't forgotten his sacrifice.
"Well it's an honor just to have Jack being part of our heritage. It's great, just knowing who he was," said Mike Pendleton, nephew of the fallen soldier.
Pendleton served during World War II and was killed in action by machine gun fire. During battle he drew fire to himself so the rest of his squad could advance and live.
