PASCO, WA-A murder trial may have to be pushed back because defense attorneys say they can't line up an expert witness.
Psychiatrists from Eastern State Hospital last month determined Gregorio Luna Luna mentally fit to stand trial, but Luna Luna's defense team wants a second opinion.
During a hearing Tuesday, public defender Shelly Ajax said the private psychiatrist she had hired has had a family emergency outside of the country and won't return until October.
Superior Court Judge Robert Swisher told defense attorneys to shop around for another doctor.
"In matters of competency, the court must give time to find the right expert, but not unlimited time," Swisher said. "This can't go on indefinitely."
Earlier this summer, Swisher scolded both the defense and the deputy prosecutor when state psychiatrists had yet to examine Luna Luna.
Pasco Police arrested Luna Luna more than a year ago for killing his ex-girlfriend during an argument over their young son.
