Suspect leads police chase with baby in his car

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A man is in jail tonight after leading police on a chase with a baby in the car.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office says an undercover officer tried to pull over Donald Wortman for not wearing a seatbelt. The 22 year-old then took off from Third Avenue in Yakima. He ran through several lights before finally stopping at 55th Avenue and Chestnut.

"That's kind of a sad state of affairs, to endanger all these people including his own one year old child simply because he didn't have a driver's license," says Sgt. George Town of the Yakima Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says that if Wortman hadn't tried to run, he may have only been ticketed with a seat belt infraction and a driving without a license violation. Now, he faces felony eluding and possible drug charges.
