Former Bears Pitcher Wade Miley gets first call to the Majors

Yakima, WA--- The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that the team has selected the contract of pitcher Wade Miley from Triple-A Reno.

Miley started his professional career with the Yakima Bears in 2008 after being selected by the D-backs in the supplemental round of the 2008 Draft. Miley pitched in seven games for the Bears as a reliever and went 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 11 innings.

Miley spent the next two seasons as a starter climbing his way from Low-A South Bend to High-A Visalia to Double-A Mobile and was named the Diamondbacks' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2010.

Miley was a non-roster invitee at the Diamondbacks spring training this year, but was sent to the Double-A Mobile BayBears at the start of this season. After going 4-2 with a 4.78 ERA in 14 starts for the BayBears, Miley advanced to Triple-A Reno, where he went 4-1 with a 3.64 ERA and 56 strikeouts in eight starts. In his last minor league start before today's promotion, Miley tossed a three-hit complete game with nine strikeouts for the win and was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the effort.

Now in his fourth professional season, the 24 year-old Miley will wear No. 36 for his first stint in the Major Leagues. Miley joins fellow 2008 Yakima Bear Collin Cowgill on the Diamondbacks, who was promoted to the Majors for the first time in his career earlier this season.

Mini plans and individual game tickets are on sale now to see the current crop of Yakima Bears. Tickets can be purchased at the downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
