PASCO, Wash. -- The Yakima Bears suffered a 3-1 road loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium. With the loss the Bears fall four games behind the division leading Dust Devils in the second half of the Northwest League season.
The Bears started the game with singles from Westley Moss and Danny Pulfer, with Moss scoring later in the first inning on a Garrett Weber groundout.
The 1-0 lead held up for the Bears for the first five innings thanks to Bears starting pitcher John Pedrotty. The lefty allowed no runs and fanned eight batters in those first five innings. At one point, Pedrotty retired 10 consecutive batters. Pedrotty finished with one run allowed on three hits in six innings for his fourth straight quality start.
After the Dust Devils tied the game in the sixth off of Pedrotty, they went right after Bears reliever Willy Paredes. Paredes surrendered a single run in the seventh and eighth innings each. With two runs allowed in two innings on four hits and a walk, Paredes fell to 0-1 on the season.
The Bears were able to load the bases with one out in the ninth, but failed to push across even a single base runner. On the night, the Bears were outhit 7-5.
The Bears, who are now 10-13 in the second half, play game two of the three game set at Gesa Stadium Friday night. Game time is set for 7:15. Right-handed pitchers Yiomar Camacho of the Bears and Christian Bergman of the Dust Devils are the expected starters.
