Sexual response center seeking name change

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Sexual Assault Response Center is looking to change its name and wants your help.

The announcement for the name change was made yesterday. SARC has operated under their current title since 1990, but they're looking for a change they feel more accurately focuses on all of their services other than sexual assault.

"We have a program called the crime victims service center and we provide services to victims of assault, child physical abuse, survivors of homicides, identity theft, and sexual assault doesn't encompass all of that," explains JoDee Garretson, executive director of SARC.

The organization wants to keep the acronym SARC because of name recognition in the community.

Anyone can submit name changes. The April 11th deadline could be moved up to December because of positive response. The winner of the name selection will receive $300.00. To submit possible names, go to the centers website, or their facebook or twitter page.
