SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-- The Sunnyside Police Department recently started their own gang unit.
The two officers are focused on stopping gang members before they commit crimes.
They've already made more than 40 arrests in the last 2 weeks. They now hope to be more proactive and persuade others to think twice about joining gangs.
"We were staying so busy that there was.... we weren't able to be as proactive as we wanted to. This is an absolute proactive unit that goes out and find them," said Sgt. Joey Glossen.
Along with the arrests, the officers have also seized 6 guns and come across other crimes while serving warrants. On Tuesday, gang unit officers discovered a substantial marijuana grow operation while serving a warrant.
