Ams Power Up at Rookie Game

Posted: Updated:

Kennewick, WA--- Hockey is a game that requires skating, as if you didn't already know. To perfect the technique,  the Tri-City Americans at rookie camp today turned to power skating.  A program designed to teach hockey players how to skate properly, to increase speed on the ice.

Power skating coach Vanessa Hettinger has been working with Americans players for the past four seasons.  Today Hettinger working with future Ams players, tested their endurance, mental toughness, and skating technique.  This provided a good opportunity for coaches to give feedback to younger players on their game.

Hettinger said, "You can find whatever deficiencies there are, and give them some good feedback on what they need to work on specifically. And then again you can see who can push through... Whose already at a young age... You know developed that strength and fortitude to push through it."

Ams head coach Jim Hiller said, "At the top levels, everybody can skate. Even the tough guys. Even the fighters. They're big and they're fast now. So we all need to be working on it."
