KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Local church donates 800 backpacks with back-to-school supplies. First Presbyterian Church in Kennewick has given away more than 800 backpacks filled with supplies.

The church is giving away bags and supplies to students whose families need help paying for back-to-school gear. Last week the church gave away 350 Jansport backpacks to community members.

Every student at Westgate Elementary is going to have a surprise on their desk. A backpack filled with supplies for the school year.

Pastor Rob Hagan says "we wanted to do something for the children. To get them going on a great year. Some of them are very underresourced. So we wanted to give backpacks to them plus school supplies."

A total of 480 backpacks will be given out on the first day of school.

The church plans to continue helping provide backpacks and other supplies to help students and teachers.
