Everett, WA--- The Yakima Bears lost 5-3 to the Everett Aquasox Sunday at Everett Memorial Stadium. The loss snapped the Bears seven-game winning streak and helped the Aquasox avoid a five-game series sweep.
All of the game's runs were scored in the fourth inning off of the two starting pitchers.
In the top half of the fourth inning Garrett Weber and Henry Zabala set the table for a Justin Hilt three-run home run by reaching on a single and an error-aided fielder's choice, respectively. The home run was Hilt's team-leading tenth of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Aquasox quickly loaded the bases while the Bears recorded only one out. Jarrett Burgess then hit a grounder to short that looked like a routine double play opportunity, but an errant throw to second allowed all three runners to score. Marcus Littlewood then hit a two-run home run to put the Aquasox in front for good.
The loss went on John Pedrotty, who gave up four earned runs and five total runs in four and two thirds innings. In his Northwest League debut Cody Geyer tossed an inning and a third scoreless, followed by a shutout inning from both Miles Reagan and Teo Gutierrez.
The Bears outhit the Aquasox 11-5, but left 10 runners on base and went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Weber led the way with a 3-for-5 game, while Hilt went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Danny Pulfer finished 2-for-5.
The Bears are now one game back of the East Division leading Tri-City Dust Devils with five games to play in the regular season. All five of those final games for the Bears will be played at 7:05 against the Eugene Emeralds at Yakima County Stadium starting Tuesday night.
