Local volunteers helping after hurricane

PASCO, Wash.-  Volunteers from the Benton-Franklin Red Cross are heading to North Carolina to help victims of Hurricane Irene.

Irene hit that state the hardest. It has the highest death toll, over 400,000 households without power, and thousands isolated.

Zonia Ziada of Kennewick is the first of four volunteers to fly out of the Tri-Cities airport this week.

"We are all one family and this country has had to many disasters one after the other. And so many are affected," says Zonia.

Zonia will be followed by Diane Schwanick of Kennewick, and Hermiston husband and wife team Merlin and Janice Cassens Wednesday.
