KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Tri-City Americans have too many veterans. They have to make some tough cuts. Main camp started on Monday with five 20-year-olds on the ice. The problem is only three can stay. That makes this a camp of competition for the returning stars such as Adam Hughesman and Brock Sutherland. Coach Jim Hiller made it known that everyone young and old has to go hard.
Rookie forward Brian Williams said, "It was a surprise. I wouldn't say a pleasant surprise but you need that to get going on the first day. I'm pretty happy he did it, woke me up pretty nicely. So yeah, it was a good thing." Hughesman added, "It pushes you a lot you know. You spend a lot of time in the gym and on the ice this summer, and you've got to trust your training and give it everything you've got and hopefully it's good enough."
