UMATILLA, OR-Workers burning the chemical weapons at the Umatilla Chemical Depot says it may finish the job before Thanksgiving.
Depot spokesman Michael Fletcher says workers have now destroyed more than 99 percent of the weapons stockpile.
Fletcher says the last container should make the trip from its igloo to the incinerator in October.
If everything goes as planned, the army will have destroyed the last weapon about five months before the April 2012 deadline.
The army says it will take about another four years to dismantle the incinerator and clean up the base.
