RICHLAND, Wash.--Duportail fire is under control. The fire that started Saturday afternoon is under control.
Firefighters got a call about two fires around 3:45. Neighbors were told they do not need to evacuate. High temperatures and a light breeze carried the fire across the Yakima River.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Harris of Benton County District #1 says "so the fire did travel less than a quarter mile or so across the Yakima River and started a second fire. So we got two fires, probably five to six acres on both sides of the river."
Richland, Kennewick and Hanford Fire departments responded. There were about 45 firefighters on scene. They will be working through the night to help secure the fire and keep it from spreading.
The fire caused no damage to any structures and no one has been injured. Firefighters say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
