1 home burned, over 100 evacuated in fire near Satus Pass
KLICKITAT COUNTY, Wash. - Update: Firefighters say one home has burned in a wildfire near Satus Pass in Klickitat County. No one was inside the home at the time. Firefighters estimate the fire has burned nearly 2,000 acres but expect that number to grow. 160 households have been contacted and told to evacuate.
The state Department of Natural Resources says the fire started about noon Wednesday in timber and brush about three miles west of Satus Pass. Brooks Memorial State Park is closed. The state took over management of the fire Thursday and ordered 65 engines and water tenders to the scene. Fire managers are operating from the county fairgrounds in Goldendale.
4 strike teams from across Washington State are making their way to the Monastery Fire to help. Highway 97 is open, but only to one way traffic led by a pilot car. Officials say to expect delays on Highway 97 to last until at least 1:00 pm Thursday.
