YAKIMA, Wash.-- If you drove across the Redmon Bridge on I-82 just outside Selah yesterday evening, you may have seen law enforcement gathered nearby. A 36 year old woman jumped to her death Monday night.
The Washington State Patrol says she's at the third in the past two years to commit suicide by jumping off the bridge. The Washington Department of Transportation says it's looking into possible ways to make it safer, but doesn't currently have any plans.
"Right now, we are just going to be assessing and look at any possible thing that could potentially reduce the chance of these type of things happening," says Troy Suing of Department of Transportation.
Suing stresses that the DOT has no plans for the bridge. He says even if they decided to put in a safety measure, they would also need to ask the legislature for money.
